About the Producer

Few wines capture a sense of place as vividly as Txakolina and Aizpurua delivers everything we look for in the region: electric acidity, Atlantic freshness, mineral precision, and incredible drinkability. Founded in 1834 by Miguel Aizpurua, Bodegas Aizpurua is one of the historic family estates of Getariako Txakolina, perched on the steep green hillsides above the Bay of Biscay in the village of Meagas, just inland from the fishing town of Getaria.

Currently run by the 4th generation, for nearly two centuries, the Aizpurua family has cultivated vineyards overlooking the Atlantic, producing traditional Basque wines that capture the freshness, salinity, and energy of the region. The estate remains family-owned and focused on native grape varieties, sustainable viticulture, and wines that express the unique Atlantic climate of Spain's northern coast.

The estate is comprised of just 14 hectares of pergola trained vines ranging from 7 to well over 50 years old, most of which of the Hondarrabi Zuri variety. Carefully selected, hand harvested fruit undergoes gentle pressing and cool fermentation with native yeasts in stainless steel. The wine is bottled young to preserve its freshness and subtle natural effervescence. Like most txakolis, quantities are super limited given the size and high demand of the region so act fast as we don’t see this wine lasting too much longer than the summer.
