About the Producer

Màquina & Tabla is a journey through the best terroirs of the Castilla y León regions, from the terraces of Gredos to the slopes of Bierzo, and across the plains of Duero (Toro & Rueda). They seek purity and delicateness in their growing, vinification and aging; respecting the singularity of the vines, crafting vibrant wines. Màquina&Tabla is Oriol and Susana, a tiny family business that began in 2012. You may know know the name Oriol Illa from his former cult project Els Jelipins, pronounced "jelly beans". Anyways, they believe that a quality wine is a product of one's respect for the land and nature. This project started from scratch, traveling around the region looking for the oldest and most peculiar vineyards. They look to the past and try to make paisano wines, traditional to each region while making them fresh, fun, and delicious.

Nicasia is their avant garde estate project paying tribute to the old school Toro wines that only exist in traditional ‘cavados’. Kind of a back-to-the-future wine concept. Meant to be a paraje wine, it transmits the freshness of the sand along with the warmth of the region. They farm 8h biodynamically using minimal intervention winemaking to produce cristaline, electric and emotional wines. Toro is a little region in the north west of Spain, close to the border with Portugal, with an extreme climate (super dry, with warm days and freezing nights). Planted mainly with Tinta de Toro for red and the shy Malvasía for white (nothing to do with the Mediterranean Malvasía) but also has some beautiful plots of old Garnacha and Verdejo which they bring to the forefront.

El Oso & la Alemana is their "modern" project. Wines crafted classically with a modern profile; old vines, traditional farming, hand harvested, grape selection by hand, slow natural fermentations, aging in used french oak barrels with no sulfites added, only a little bit at bottling. Looking for wines full of flavor with intensity while still having finesse. El Oso & la Alemana is a result of taking a low cost flight to a festival in Berlin and craving a good wine to enjoy in a paper cup while listening to some live music.
